General Summary/Overview:
Infusion Nurse collaborates with the members of the interdisciplinary team to provide safe, comprehensive patient care, in an outpatient Oncology center.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Establishes an affirmative, caring nurse-client relationship to support the patient.
- Provides care to the Oncology patient using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Adheres to the standards of nursing care of all areas.
- Take orders from physicians and implement appropriate patient care.
- Ensures continuity of care by documenting all patient care information appropriately and communicating pertinent information as necessary.
- Implements and maintains standards for environmental health and safety for patients and staff.
- Maintains safe environment for patients and staff while at our facility including a physical environment (i.e. equipment and necessary supplies.)
- Preparation of chemotherapy drugs to be administered. Including mixing and handling.
- Teaches patients/families aspects of health care that will promote health and well-being, including reinforcing the physician’s instructions.
- Assess the health education needs of the patient/family at the time of the visit.
- Reports to medical staff changes in patients’ condition.
- Actively participates in the ongoing Quality Improvement Program.
- Implements and maintains standards for environmental health and safety for patients and staff
- Will inform the Nurse Manager of any changes to RN/LPN licensure and ability to maintain or perform duties per state and federal law.
- Assess patients and screens EPIC for appropriateness for our facility.
- Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of each patient assigned.
- Coordinate the preparation of the patients with other team members.
- Assess patients according to systematic approach.
- Evaluate the nursing assessment and appropriately communicate data to the physician.
- Give comprehensive nursing care to meet the total needs of the patient.
- Maintain a safe physical environment Including equipment and necessary supplies.
- Assists in the development of the Center’s Quality Improvement Program.
- Promote good public relations with the patient’s family and visitors.
- Allay fears and anxiety of patient, provides quiet environment, and respects the dignity and privacy of the patient.
- Participation in Center “in services” relative to position and to maintain professional competency.
- Take orders from physicians and implement appropriate patient care.
- Attendance of Center’s meetings.
- Performs other assigned work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current RN licensure with this State’s Board of Nurse Examiners. Oncology experience.
- Current CPR required.
- Current ACLS
- Experience with BLS, ACLS.
- Demonstrated knowledge and responsibility through references from past education and/or job experience.
- IV insertion experience preferred.
- Evidence of continued professional development.
Experience:
- Extensive knowledge in providing care in an Oncology Surgical Center.
- Ability to work with patients and other staff in a team oriented setting.
- 2 to 5 year Experience in an Oncology setting.
License/Certification/Registration:
Current RN licensure in Massachusetts
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Ability to work safely in a patient care environment and follow OSHA and safety requirements.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to follow nursing procedures. Knowledge of Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills with the ability to problem-solve and take action on emergent events.
